Five Jamaican football phenoms and their families have good reason to celebrate today after being selected winners in the Nestlé MILO One Day Tournament on Sunday September 17, 2017 at the Football Factory. The talented five that emerged included – Matthew Rose of Central Kingston FC; Sean Salmon of Montego Bay United FC; Romane Blake of Waterhouse FC; Tariq Ximinies of Harbour View FC and Kevon Wilson also of Harbour View FC.

The young men, represent under-13 teams from the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) and Montego Bay football clubs. 16 teams participated in the one-day tournament that gave players the opportunity to showcase their football skills and secure a space in a contingent heading to Barcelona from October 14-18, 2017, courtesy of Nestlé MILO.

Nestlé Jamaica Marketing Manager Raymond ‘Sean’ Wallace underscored the significance of the tournament and the rewarding of upcoming talent in the football fraternity to Nestlé and MILO as a brand, solidifying MILO’s objective to promote an active lifestyle through sporting activities.

“The boys selected here will participate in classroom and an on-field training exercises with the coaches at FC Barcelona,” Wallace said. “Additionally, they will tour the city of Barcelona and the FC Barcelona facility – a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these players. Wallace remains hopeful that the program can be expanded in the future.

The tournament is the culmination of a 4-year deal between Nestlé MILO and FC Barcelona to give fans of the energy food drink an all-expense paid visit to Barcelona, Spain.

Following the announcement of the five, Miguel Coley, Technical Director and technical committee member who selected the players said, “It was a challenging feat, selecting from the pool of players, as many displayed the required acumen to be selected for this opportunity. I believe we had some very competent players, even from teams that didn’t advance from the quarter finals, but we have definitely selected the best quality players,” he ended.

The Technical Committee selected the five players using specific criteria, namely: technical ability, integration and deportment throughout the tournament.

Other results from the tournament saw Harbour View winning the tournament in a final against Real Mona FC finishing in a penalty shoot out; third place was awarded to Central Kingston FC. The tournament recognized Most Valuable Player of the tournament Tariq Ximinies of Harbour View FC; Best Goalkeeper of the tournament – Xavier Codlin of Real Mona FC; and coach of the tournament Sydney McFarlane of Harbour View FC.
