What is Nestlé’s response to finding mould in ORCHARD®?
Nestlé’s top priority is the taste and quality of our products. All of our products undergo extensive testing at all stages of the manufacturing process – before, during and after - to ensure the highest quality.
We encourage and welcome feedback on all of our products through our Care Centre Hotline – 800-NEST in Trinidad & Tobago, or 888-1NESTLE in Jamaica, or on our social media platforms such @NestleCaribbean, or our website contact form. We treat all consumer complaints very seriously and we conduct thorough investigations to ensure consumer satisfaction at all levels.
Question and Answer
Mould growth inside of juice drink products occurs very infrequently. While the company takes every precaution in the manufacturing and handling of our products, damage to the carton may occur if the item falls or is dented during transportation or handling, after leaving our factory. This can allow air to enter the package. Food mould is a type of fungus which can grow on any food/fruit/juice etc. if it is left exposed to open atmosphere air (intentionally or unintentionally). This is especially true for fruit or fruit based beverages.
ORCHARD® Juices and Drinks are made in our Valsayn factory under an aseptic process that ensures the quality of both products and packaging. Everything in our production chain is commercially sterile and hygienic. This includes our drinks and juices and our tetra packaging (which is made up of six layers that ensure that the product's freshness is maintained). Our products are extensively tested at all points on the production chain - before, during and after manufacture.
Nestlé applies internationally recognised Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure quality and food safety as well as the internationally recognised HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) system to ensure safety in all of our products, verified by external certification bodies against the international ISO 22000:2005/ISO 22002-1 standards.
Nestlé is closely collaborating with our transport contractors, distributors and retail partners to improve transportation and pack handling. We are also encouraging our consumers to check the packaging for damage before purchase. We advise consumers to ensure:
- No broken seal
- No leaks
- No swelling of product
- No dent in product
- No sogginess around the caps
- No bad odors
- Product not passed the expiry date
