Nestlé Jamaica employs Youths for Summer Programme

Jamaica Youth Programme

As part of their Nestlé Needs Youth Initiative, which began in 2015, Nestlé Jamaica opened its new head office to 14 youths as part of their summer employment programme. The objective of the Nestlé Needs Youth Programme is to reduce Youth Unemployment.

Since the programme began, over 1017 youths participated in training programmes, 38 completed internships and summer work, and 9 were hired into permanent positions within the Company.

The Summer Programme, launched at the Company’s new location in Ferry Pen, St. Andrew (off the Mandela Highway), will give youths an opportunity to acquire on-the-job training and experience in working for the number one Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company in the world.

Over the duration of the summer programme the participants will take part in workshops that will cover critical areas to gain employment and succeed in the workplace. Resume writing, Soft Skills 101, Interviewing Techniques, Dressing for Success, Communication, and Organizational Development skills all form part of the overall curriculum.

Sineal Smith, a second year Law student at the UWI, Mona, shared that, “…the environment here is so enabling; the ergonomics of the space and the energy of the people is amazing. I have been adopted into a culture of diligence and excellence and I love it! I anticipate making use of every opportunity to improve my personal and professional development.”

She’s in the right place as the Nestlé Needs Youth programme seeks to help her with just that…helping young people looking to transition into the world of work.
