Was there an incident at Nestlé Valsayn on Tuesday 20th?

We confirm that there was a minor incident at the Nestlé Valsayn Factory compound on Tuesday 20th August, 2019, which involved an interaction between chemicals and paint in a storage area. Trained members of staff were able to contain the situation immediately. Support was given by the Trinidad & Tobago Fire Services to ensure that all risks were mitigated. No individuals were injured and there was minimal damage to property.

Following this incident, two barrels with the disposed chemicals remained on the compound to be collected on Wednesday 21st August, 2019 for final disposal. Before collection could be made, there was a chemical reaction leading to fumes emanating from these two barrels. Once again, our trained employees handled the situation effectively and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services’ Hazardous Materials Unit supported, ensuring correct procedures were followed and there was a safe return to normal operations. All materials involved have been removed from the compound for proper disposal and the affected area cleaned appropriately.
