Reusable packaging solutions

One of the many ways we're tackling plastic waste
Reusable packaging solutions
At our Annual General Meeting, shareholders had a chance to discover some of our reusable packaging models.

We showcased our reusable Häagen-Dazs ice cream container and new Nescafé and Milo dispensers. Many shareholders and members of the media passed by the information booth and showed strong interest in these systems.

In January 2019, Häagen-Dazs, our ice cream brand in the United States and Canada, partnered with Loop. Loop is a subscription home delivery service for foods and household goods with reusable packaging. Deliveries are made to the consumer’s front door step in customized, durable packaging that is then collected, cleaned, refilled and re-used.

Our dispensers for Nescafé and Milo, already available in the out-of-home segment in many countries around the world, were also on display.

We are determined to reduce our use of single-use plastics and will continue to introduce reusable packaging, new delivery systems and innovative business models. In early 2020, we will for instance launch new water dispensers using state-of-the-art technology, allowing consumers to fill their own reusable bottles.

These innovative models are promising and are part of a broader set of actions. We are working on many different fronts – promoting recycling and developing novel biodegradable and compostable packaging solutions.

In April last year, we pledged to make 100% of our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. In January 2019, we set out our broader vision for a waste-free future, and announced a series of specific actions to meet our commitment.
