Nestlé Trinidad and Tobago wins AMCHAM T&T Excellent HSE Performance Award and Honourable Mention for Outstanding HSE project 2019

Nestlé Trinidad and Tobago Limited has won the prestigious American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) Excellent HSE Performance Award – Manufacturing, Large Category, at the 2019 HSSE Conference and Exhibition Awards Ceremony. Nestlé also received Honourable Mention for Outstanding HSE project based on their recent Walk-path Safety Upgrade Project.

Held at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom on Thursday 24th October, the Excellent HSE Performance Award aims to recognize entities that have HSE well integrated as a key organizational value and in which measurable achievement in HSE performance is linked to productivity and profitability. Nestlé was recognized for their changes to safety culture to that of an Inter-dependent organization where safety is a shared company value, significant reduction in recordable injury frequency rate, and effective upgrades to operational safety.

Speaking following the awards ceremony, Market SHE Manager Daryle Sankar said “Safety is very visibly lived everyday as Nestlé’s top priority, and this is how it has become a core and perhaps the most recognizable part of our culture. It is how we start each day, how we start every operational review, and it is led by all staff. This award is a reflection of each of our employee’s daily commitment to HSE. They consistently report that the safety behaviours driven here become a part of their everyday lives, and that’s really our ultimate goal – that every day, they are returning safely to their loved ones.”

Nestlé’s Walk-path Safety Upgrade Project that received Honourable Mention for Outstanding HSE project included:

Forklift crossing gates
Forklift crossing gates installed at Distribution Center

1)     Installation of ‘stop-lift’ forklift crossing gates, spring loaded to close on their own

2)     Upgrades to the main carpark introducing demarcated paths to connect parking spaces to main buildings, and the installation of speedbumps and speed detector

3)     New walk-path handrails along short stairs at guard booths and other walk-paths

4)     Installation of crossing lights at sports club entrance  

5)     New epoxy anti-skid floor at sugar tipping station in Factory

6)     Demarcated area for material transfer in Paper Room

Factory Manager at Nestlé Trinidad and Tobago Joao Almeida says this is a win for the whole team: “I am extremely proud of our entire Nestlé Team.
